The woman gesturing OK emoji was introduced in 2016, but is virtually identical to the original 2010 emoji, person gesturing OK. It shows the head and upper body of a happy-faced young woman with her arms raised above her head to form a complete O-shape to indicate the word “OK”. The emoji is used in any context where agreement, consent of assent is required, and is seen as the exact opposite of the woman gesturing no emoji. The slightly surprised – though happy – expression on the woman’s face and general confusion over what the O-symbol actually means has resulted in people being much more likely to opt for the OK hand emoji when they want to say yes to a plan.
